John Edwin Myers, 85, died June 7, 2011 at his home in Vero Beach. He was born in Omaha, NE and grew up in Upper Montclair, NJ. After service with the Army Air Corps and the U.S. Air Force in World War II and the Korean War, following active and reserve duty, he retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel. He returned home and attended college at Duke University where he met and married Emily Helseth. He subsequently earned degrees from the University of Florida and Florida State University. They raised their family in Jacksonville, Florida and after retiring from teaching in 1988 moved to Vero Beach where they became the third generation to occupy the O.O. Helseth homestead in Oslo. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Emily, Children Mary and Ronnie Myers-Burgess and Eric and Pam Kraus-Myers and grandchildren Daniel Myers and Amanda Myers.
