John Richard Oxley, 69, of Vero Beach passed away on June 16th, 2018. John was born in Rutland, VT and went to school growing up in Middlebury, VT. John won the Vermont Junior Amateur Golf Championship and the Vermont Senior Amateur Golf Championship. He played #2 on a golf team at St. Petersburg Junior College that won the NCAA Junior College National Championship. John went on to become an assistant golf pro in Rochester New York, then at Emerald Hills Country Club in Hollywood, Fl. He was working as an assistant pro/golf shop manager for Julius Boros at Aventura Country Club in Miami when he changed careers. John joined Prudential Insurance Company, and eventually became Prudential's Fort Lauderdale District Manager. Under John's leadership his district became the #4 top producing district for Prudential in the United States. John retired, traveling in his motor home with his dog Ellie and playing some senior golf tournaments before settling in Vero Beach.
John was born into a family of musicians and golfers. He was predeceased by his brother Richard and parents Richard Oxley and Gunvar "Vikki" Vik Oxley. John is survived by sisters Carol Reed, Laureen Carson, and Joy Carlson; daughter Joyce Prahasky; and the love of his life, Shelly Mehlman.
A "Celebration of Life" will be held at the Vero Beach Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #4374, on September 15th, 2018. John drove Corvettes and rode motorcycles.
He was a big hearted Viking who was loved by and will be missed by all who were lucky enough to be his friends.
