John M. Patten, 93, of Vero Beach died April 3, 2012. Mr. Patten was a native of Stafford Springs, CT, and had been a resident of Vero Beach for 24 years. He was the son of Parley C. Patten and Mildred R. Patten.
Mr. Patten received his formal education at Wilbraham Academy in Wilbraham, MA, and the Wharton School of Business of the University of Pennsylvania.
Mr. Patten served in the United States Army as a Sergeant in the Amphibious Unit in the Pacific Theater during WWII. During that time he was involved in three island assaults. After his discharge in 1945, he became treasurer of the Standard Card Clothing Company of Stafford Springs. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Patten was the Chairman of the Board of the Stafford Savings Bank.
Survivors include his brother, Freeman F. Patten, sister-in-law Carol Patten of Port Saint Lucie; sons, John M. Patten Jr., daughter-in-law, Lynne R. Patten of Vero Beach and Robbin B. Patten of Subie Bay, Philippines; five grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years Suzanne Foote Beckwith of West Hardford, CT.

Service: A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 12, 2012 at 11:30 AM at the Cox Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home in Vero Beach. Father Michael W. Goldberg of St. Augustine of Canterbury Episcopal Church will be officiating. Arrangements are under the care of Cox Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home & Crematory.
