John Y. Song, MD, 66, of Vero Beach, FL died unexpectedly Monday, Aug 31, 2009.
Dr. Song was born October 3, 1942 in Suncheon, South Korea, the son of Yoo Gok Jo and Jae Hong Song, the latter a prominent producer in the Korean film industry.
He graduated from Kwangju Medical School in Korea and later served in Vietnam with the Korean Military Medical Corps. A specialist in Medical Oncology , Internal Medicine and Anatomical & Clinical Pathology, Dr. Song moved to the United States in 1972 , practicing in the states of New York and Rhode Island before moving to Florida in 1983. In addition to his medical practice, Dr. Song also served for a time as a teaching fellow at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University.
In 1985, Dr. Song moved to Vero Beach where he served as a family physician, providing care for thousands of patients in the Treasure Coast area from his clinic in Vero Beach.
Survivors include his sons Jon Song of New York City; and Jason Song of Beijing, China; daughter Julie Song of Vero Beach; brother Oh Suk Song of Korea and sister Jung Soon Song of Korea.
The family will receive friends 12:30 to 3:30 PM, Sunday, September 6, 2009 at Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home with a Life Celebration Service at 3:30 PM.
