John W.Tippin, age 76, was called to his eternal home by his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, December 29, 2010. He is survived by his wife Dorothy (Waskom) Tippin, and was the son of the late James B. and Frieda Tippin. His four children are Michael Tippin (Donna), Anne Wilcox, Patricia Hunsader (Mike), and Linda Tippins (Eric). His ten grandchildren are Michelle Tippin, Richard Tippin, Jared Hunsader, Zachary Hunsader, Johnny Hunsader, Tyler Hunsader, Alyssa Hunsader, Makenzi Tippins, Makaela Tippins, and Makintyre Tippins. John is also survived by his brothers James B., Jr. (Elizabeth) and Stanley L. (Lisa), and his sister-in-law Ruth, widow of brother Edward G.

John was born and raised in Vero Beach, graduated from Vero Beach High School in 1952, attended Valparaiso University for one year, then graduated from Florida State University with a degree in Public Administration in 1956.

He became the assistant manager of the Chamber of Commerce in Tallahassee in 1957, served as chamber manager in Vero Beach from 1959 to 1962, then moved to Panama City to manage their Chamber of Commerce in 1963. In early 1966, he became the Executive Director of the L P Gas Association, and remained in that position until late 1968 when he returned to Vero Beach to open Tippin Landscaping Service, Inc. He owned and operated Tippin Landscaping for 27 years until it closed in 1995.

Throughout his life, John was active in his community. He served on the Indian River Planning and Zoning Board for 12 years, was appointed to the County Commission in 1992 where he served for 10 years, then continued to serve on the Vero Beach Historical Society during his retirement. He was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church since childhood, and held various council positions over the course of his life.

John enjoyed fishing, gardening, and reading. His many fishing trips never garnered that big bass, but the hope was ever-present. He grew lovely tomatoes, and read extensively on WW1, WW2, and gardening.

Interment services will follow this service at Crestlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Grace Lutheran Church choir or educational fund.
