Jonathan Visel , 89, died Oct.18, 2009
at Indian River Medical Center. He was
born in Brooklyn, NY and has lived in
Heron Cay since 1986.
Jon served in the U.S Marines 1942-45.
He worked for the San Francisco Examiner
and was News Director for the International
Longshoremans Union in Brooklyn.
He attended Columbia University, The New
School and New York Institute of Technology.
After his retirement in Florida, he volunteered
for hospice and was a member of the UU Fellowship
of Vero Beach. An avid writer of letters to the
editor, he also enjoyed singing, swimming, and
tennis.
Survivors include Elsie, his wife of 60 years,
his daughters Robin Visel and Christine Barker,
sons-in-law Yorgos Papatheodorou and Robert
Barker, grandchildren Elli and Georgia
Papatheodorou, Maria and Timothy Barker, and
grandson-in-law Raymond Ventura.
Services-A memorial gathering will be held
At Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home in
Vero Beach on Tuesday October 20 from 4-6 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can
be made to charity of choice.
