Joseph D. Richard, 81, of Vero Beach died Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at the Indian River Medical Center.

Mr. Richard was born May 23, 1931 in Revere, MA. He had been a resident of Vero Beach since 1983, coming from McLean, VA.

Prior to his retirement he worked as a cryptographer for over 25 years.

He volunteered as a teacher for the Brevard Association of the Blind for 12 years.

He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Linda Richard.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Marie Jones and Millie Rock.

A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, August 10, 2012 at Cox Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home in Vero Beach. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, August 11, 2012 at Saint Helen Catholic Church. Interment will follow on Monday, August 13 at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.
