Julian Upton Harris, age 84, of Okeechobee, Florida, passed away Monday, Feb. 7, 2011, at his home surrounded by family.
During WW II he proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy and was the owner of J.U. Harris Co., Inc., in Frederick, Maryland, until 1982.
He was an avid fisherman and hunter. While in Maryland he enjoyed shark fishing. In Florida he took up alligator hunting and spent time fishing and keeping many boats running and made many friends over the years.
He was the son of the late John A. Harris, Sr. and Roberta Virginia Staley Harris; and preceded in death by brothers, James I. Harris, John A. Harris, Jr., all from Frederick, Md.; sister, Vivian Marsden of Groton, Conn.; and a step-grandson, Justin D. Calhoun of Frederick, Md.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Roberta Frances Zimmerman Harris; children, Susan D. Ramsburg of Okeechobee, Judith A. (Duane) Calhoun of Bonita Springs, Fla., Robert J. (Christina) Harris of Frederick, Md.; grandsons, Michael H. Ramsburg, Julian C. Harris; step-grandchildren, Corey P. Calhoun, Nicole O. Minnick, Michael J. Ott; and numerous cousins, neices and nephews.
The family will receive friends Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011, from 3-5 pm at the Buxton-Seawinds Chapel at Abundant Blessings Church with a memorial service beginning at 5 pm. In addition, a memorial service will be held in Frederick, Md., at a later date.
