Karl H. Axelson, 76 of Sebastian, FL died Thursday, January 7, 2010 at William Childs Hospice House in Palm Bay, Florida.
He was born March 14, 1933 in Greenport, L.I., NY and moved to Sebastian in 1989 from Mattituck, NY.
He retired as a Sr. Lab. Tech at US Government Disease Lab Plum Island, NY after 38 years service.
He was a former Fire Chief of Greenport F.D., NY, past Captain and life member of Standard Hose Co.4 Greenport F.D., NY, former Fire Commissioner Greenport F.D., former charter member and past captain Co.6 Mattituck F.D., NY, Life member of the VFW Post 10210 in Sebastian Amer Leg. Post 189. Fellowship Degree in Loyal order of Moose 1767 Sebastian River , ELKS 2714 Sebastian. He was one of the original founders of the Korean War Veterans Associations Grey Beards Charter life member #75 National.
Attended Leonardo High School, NJ. Decorated US Army Korean War Veterans, chosen FEW Reservoir 1950, then served in Germany from 51-53.
Survivors include his wife of 14 years Barbara A. Axelson; daughter Mary Jane Williams of Chester, VA; step-daughter Colleen T. Young of Ridgefield, CT; step-son Owen M. McCarron, MD of Cedar Rapids, IA and eleven grandchildren. He was predeceased by his two brothers Harold Axelson and Fred Axelson.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, January 29, 2010 in Sebastian Cemetery with Military Honors by Sebastian River Area Veterans Honor Guard.
