Obituary

Kenneth N. Rogers, 84, of Vero Beach, FL and formerly of Dallas, PA and Minnetrista, MN, entered into God's loving embrace on Friday, November 11, 2022, in Vero Beach, FL following an extended illness.

Ken was the second son born to William and Isabella Rogers of Brooklyn, NY. Ken grew up in Trenton, NJ with his parents and brother, Bill, where he was active in Boy Scouts, enjoying days fishing and canoeing on the Delaware River. Ken graduated from Trenton Central High School and received his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA. He married his high school sweetheart, Joan Bell, in 1961. Ken proudly served his country as a first lieutenant in the Corps of Engineers for the U.S. Army at Fort Leonard Wood, MO.

Ken and Joan moved to Northeastern Pennsylvania, where Ken worked for Pennsylvania Power and Light before starting his own engineering firm, Lacy & Rogers, and then later, Martin Rogers Associates, in Wilkes-Barre, PA. Ken received his MBA from University of Scranton. Ken and Joan lived in Dallas, PA for over 30 years and had one daughter, Amy. They loved hiking at Ricketts Glenn State Park, attending events at Wyoming Seminary, participating in neighborhood activities at High Point Acres, visiting family, and traveling. As "Grampy," Ken loved spending time with his grandchildren, Quinn, Caroline, and Katelyn, taking them boating and fishing, playing board games, going on nature walks, and listening to Quinn play the piano. He was so incredibly proud of them and their accomplishments.

Wherever he lived, Ken was active in his church and community, including serving on the board of the Dallas Area Municipal Authority. Ken was delighted to be a member of the Westmoreland Club of Wilkes-Barre. He enjoyed taking fishing trips to the Susquehanna and Delaware rivers and Canada with his fishing buddy, Carl Nagy. During his retirement, Ken and Joan vacationed to England, Scotland, the Caribbean, national parks, and the Canadian Rockies.

Ken devotedly cared for Joan during her illness with Lou Gehrig's disease. After Joan's death, Ken married Janet von Stein and lived with her in Vero Beach, FL and Minnetrista, MN, where he enjoyed fishing and boating on Whaletail Lake. Ken and Jan went on many cruises around the world, and he enjoyed taking nature photographs wherever he went. Jan lovingly cared for Ken through his illness.

Ken is predeceased by his parents, William R. and Isabella (Wall) Rogers, of Crosswicks, NJ; his brother, William "Bill" Rogers and sister-in-law, Joan, also of Crosswicks, NJ; his brother-in-law, Taylor Bell of Fishers, IN; his in-laws, Frances H. and Doris (Bebbington) Bell of Freehold, NJ; and his wife, Joan (Bell) Rogers. Ken is survived by his daughter, Amy (Rogers) Crawford and her husband, Monty Crawford, of Ellicott City, MD; grandchildren Quinn, Caroline, and Katelyn, who all brought him great joy; his second wife, Janet von Stein Rogers of Vero Beach, FL; his sister-in-law, Marie (Bell) Lewis of Indianapolis, IN; and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at Ewing Church Cemetery in Ewing, NJ on November 26, 2022, at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
