Laura Priscilla Alger, 88, died December 20 at William Childs Hospice House in Palm Bay, Florida. Priscilla, as she preferred to be called, was born August 21, 1924 in Chatham, Massachusettes. She graduated in 1942 from Chattham High School. She graduated as a registered nurse from Rhode Island Hospital in 1946. After WWII, she married and raised a family during which time she owned and operated the "Hiawatha" Chatham Historic Landmark built in 1838 a Captains house which she used as a bed and breakfast. After her husbands untimely death, she moved to Vero Beach, Florida where she worked in the real estate business. She later remarried in Vero Beach, Florida April 16, 1976 and then returned to Dallas to live. Eventually the love for travel propelled them to sell their house and travel the country in an RV, where they met many steadfast friends before returning to the beautiful Florida setting in Barefoot Bay in Micco, Florida. She was passionate about the Lord and was dedicated to serving others for the past 5 years working at the Food Cupboard at the First Baptist Church of Barefoot Bay. She was also active in the Women On Missions group at the church. She served as the organist and piano player for many years and sang in the choir. Another passion of hers was having beautiful flower gardens whether it was at her bed and breakfast or at her current home. She was a member in the The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution since 1972. She is survived by her husband Bruce R. Alger, Micco, FL; her son Robert (and Betsy) Jones, Jr. , Amherst, MA; her daughter Laura Jones, Chatham, MA; step-daughter, Jill Alger, The Villages, FL; grandson Bobby (and Becky) Jones, West Springfield, MA; great granddaughter, Sophia, West Springfield, MA; step daughter-in-law, Carol Alger, Boone, NC; seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, as well as cousins, nieces, and nephews. She is predeceased by her step-son Steven Van Alger, Boone, NC. A memorial service will be held in Chattham, MA at a later determined date as well as a service at the First Baptist Church of Barefoot Bay in Micco, Florida on January 19, 2013 at 11:00 am.
