Laura Winther Strait, age 62, died May 5, 2012 at the VNA Hospice in Vero Beach. Born in Oceanside, NY, Laura grew up in Baldwin, NY, graduated from Baldwin High School and later from Nassau Community College. She had been a talented artist and seamstress. Moved to Florida in 1987 and resided in Sebastian, Fort Myers, and Vero Beach. She worked as the first secretary at the Vero Beach Environmental Learning Center. She was later employed as a Property Manager in Fort Myers for the ten years prior to her illness.
Survivors include her loving parents, Ruth and John Winther of Vero Beach. She was a loving sister to her siblings, Linda Winther Eggermann and husband Fred of Vero Beach, Brother Fred Winther and wife Sherri from Huntington, New York and John Winther and wife Nancy from Mastic Beach, New York. She is survived by her stepson Jonathan Strait of Winter Park, Florida. She was also a beloved Aunt to her nine nieces and nephews: Deborah, Stefanie, Kathleen, Jennifer, Heather, Jessica, James, Kristie, and John Thomas.
A Memorial service will be held on Saturday May 12th 1:30 p.m. at Living Lord Lutheran Church, 2725 58th Avenue in Vero Beach. Her ashes will be placed in the Columbarium on the Church grounds. In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent to the American Cancer Society in her Memory.
