Lawrence W. Haryslak, 81, of Vero Beach, passed away Saturday, February 1, 2020, after a long battle with heart disease.
Larry was born to the late William and Victoria Haryslak on February 20, 1938, in Camden, NJ. He graduated as class president from St. Joseph's HS (Camden, NJ) in 1955 and attended Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA. He earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering. He met the love of his life Jeani Mazza, deceased 2018, and they married in April 1963. They were married for over 55 years and settled in Mount Laurel, NJ and Avalon, NJ before moving to Vero Beach, FL in September 2004.
Lawrence worked at the Philadelphia Naval Base for Naval Ship Systems Engineering Station (Department of Defense) and was involved in a plethora of mechanical engineering projects both domestically and internationally, where he received numerous accolades and awards for his outstanding leadership and work skills. After 31 years of service for the Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock Division, he retired in January 1994.
Lawrence is survived by his children William Haryslak (wife Catherine), of Dennisville, NJ, Julie Schwartz (husband Jeffrey), of Cape May Court House, NJ, Mark Haryslak, of Vero Beach, FL, Mathew Haryslak (wife Rita), of Palm Springs, CA. He is also survived by his three beautiful granddaughters Emily Head (husband Thomas), Olivia Schwartz and Shelby Haryslak.
Lawrence was an avid vintage Hollywood film voyeur, namely the Western and Classic film genres and was a huge fan of John Wayne, Humphrey Bogart, Alfred Hitchcock, and James Bond films. Besides passing his time watching movies, he was a lover of the Atlantic Ocean where he would swim during the summers and early falls in Avalon. He loved his extended family, childhood friends and former work colleagues. All throughout his life, he was a member of his local Catholic Church and had an uncanny ability of being compassionate, stoic, knowledgeable and kind.
The family will receive family and friends for the "Celebration of Life" prayer service on Saturday, February 8 th from 11:30 am-1:30 pm at Cox Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home in Vero Beach, FL.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Navy Seal Legacy Foundation .
