Obituary

Lee W eldy Dana died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, February 25, 2021, after a long illness.

He was born July 25, 1930 in Seattle, Washington. He graduated from Queen Anne High School in 1948 and entered the University of Washington. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea from 1951 to 1953. Upon his return to Seattle , he finished his education at the University of Washington with a B.S. in Engineering. He then sailed with his uncle Dave Dana on his sailboat , Argus , from Seattle to Ft. Lauderdale , through the Panama Canal. It was at Bahia Mar Yacht Basin in Ft. Lauderdale whe re he met his wife of 66 years, Estelle Lowe Dana.

Lee loved the sea. He was a n aval a rchitect and m arine e ngineer and went on to become Senior Vice President of Bertram Yacht, where he worked for 29 years. In 1989 he started his own marine consulting firm , Lee Dana & Associates. From then until 2010, he worked with motor , sailing and commercial vessels .

During his career, Lee served as Chair of the Southeast Section of the Society for Naval Ar chitects and Marine Engineers (SNAME) , Member and Director of the American Boat and Yacht Council's (ABYC) Technical Board, Trustee of the Miami Maritime Museum, and Affiliate of the American Arbitration Association.

He was predeceased by his parents Lee Weldy Da na, Sr. and Elizabeth Molony Dana , both of Seattle, WA , as well as brothers Robert Dana of Seattle , and Richard Dana of Lake Oswego, OR . He is survived by his wife Estelle , his son Jeff Dana (Leslie Dengler ) of Plantation, Florida, and daughter Diane Dana (John Tracy) of North Easton, M assachusetts .

A Celebration of Lee's Life will be held at a later date .
