Leslie "Les" Carraway, 99, of Vero Beach died Thursday, November 3, 2011 at the Indian River Medical Center.
Mr. Carraway was born February 21, 1912 in Sanibel Island, and has been a resident of Vero Beach since the 1940s.
He is one of Jehovah's Witnesses and served as an elder in the local congregation in Vero Beach.
Les worked as a sharecropper, gardener and in the local packing houses.
Mr. Carraway was also a carpenter and helped in the construction of the main bridges on the Treasure Coast.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Cecilia; daughters, Wanda and Jackie; son, Leon; brothers, Frank and Norman; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his son, Kenneth; daughter, Glenda; parents, Stark and Mary; and brother, Curtis.
A private interment will be held at Crestlawn Cemetery.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 12, 2011 at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Wittnesses 2126 8th Street Vero Beach, FL 32962.
