Leven Boardman Gray, 84, of Vero Beach, died on Monday, May 28, with family by his side. Leven was born on June 23, 1933 in St. Louis, Missouri to the late Leven Darby Gray and Dorothy Boardman. He earned his BS in Physics from the University of Missouri where he was captain of the track team. He still holds the Big Eight national record for low hurdles. He was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. The U.S. Air Force awarded him a commendation medal for his outstanding service.

Leven married Marianne Harper in 1956 in Mexico, Missouri. They raised their family in Annapolis, Maryland. Leven was the Director of Safety at NASA Headquarters until he retired in 1994. They spent twelve years on their boat, the Jabberwoc, touring waterways between Maryland and the Bahamas before moving to Vero Beach. In Florida, Leven volunteered for Habitat for Humanity and the Indian River Medical Center. He served as an elder at the First Presbyterian Church of Vero Beach.

Leven is survived by Anne, his devoted wife of 62 years; and his loving children, Leven Randal Yamazaki-Gray and wife, Miyako, and children, Kira Kai and Tamara Kai of Molokai, Hawaii; David Weeks Gray of Keene, New Hampshire; and Suzanna Gray Bliss and husband, Dr. Steven Sobel, of Middlesex, Vermont. He is pre-deceased by his sister, Shirley Young.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, June 2, at 11am at the First Presbyterian Church at 520 Royal Palm Blvd., Vero Beach, FL 32960.
