Obituary

Lillian D. Wessinger of Indian River Estates in Vero Beach passed away peacefully at VNA Hospice House on January 14, 2020. She was born June 10, 1920 in Astoria, New York.

Lillian grew up in Astoria, New York where she attended school. She studied soft shoe
dancing and performed in many dance shows. After high school she attended Pace
Business Institute and studied accounting. She married Bruno Wessinger on November
30, 1941 and continued working until she became a mother in 1944. She then became a
stay-at-home mother and an active volunteer.


During the WWII Lillian rolled bandages for the Red Cross. When her children reached
school age she volunteered as a Girl Scout leader and a Cub Scout Den Mother. She was
a member of the PTA and was a faithful attendee at her children's school and extra-
curricular activities.


Lillian was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of New Hyde Park, NY where she
was involved with the activities of the Church and the Women's Guild. She served as
the Guild's Corresponding Secretary and President eventually becoming a church
Deacon. Lillian also served as Vice President of the Long Island Council of Churches.
She was blood bank chairperson for her local church and later for the Long Island
Council. She drove for and visited shut-ins through the FISH organization.

Lillian and her family spent summers in Huntington, Long Island on their cabin cruiser.
Later she and her husband shared their time between Vero Beach, FL and Waterville
Valley, New Hampshire. They retired to Vero Beach in 1994.

Her husband and a grandson predeceased her. She is
survived by 3 children, 5 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.


A memorial service will be held on February 8 at 1:30 pm at the Indian River Estates,
East Building's multi-purpose room. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent
to VNA and Hospice Foundation, 1110 35 th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960.
