Obituary

Devoted mother and beloved grandmother, Loretta Anna Weber Brahm passed away after an extended illness. Loretta died peacefully in hospice care at the Brennity in Vero Beach, FL on Wednesday, July 31, 2024. The eldest daughter amongst eight siblings, Loretta was born on November 9, 1929 in Snake Run, Indiana, the daughter of Adam Weber and Cecila (Titzer) Weber.

Loretta attended Purdue University for two years and between semesters she worked as a nanny in Lake George, NY.  She married her childhood sweetheart, Charles Bernard Brahm, on October 8, 1949 and they immediately moved to Connecticut.  She worked briefly for the Singer Manufacturing Company before becoming a stay-at-home mother to her rapidly growing family. She had six boys whom she raised in Ellington.

Loretta was active in her community, doing volunteer work at the Rockville General Hospital and Hall Memorial Library as well as driving for Meals on Wheels. Both she and Charles were founding members of the Church of St Luke in Ellington. They also were very fond of spending time with family and friends at their vacation home in Chatham MA.

Loretta enjoyed quilting, knitting, and crocheting and was an excellent crafts woman. In the early 1960's she started creating exquisite velvet wrapped, jeweled Christmas balls, a family tradition that continues today. She and Charles traveled extensively and instilled a sense of curiosity in their children.

Loretta was predeceased by Charles, her husband of seven decades, and her youngest son John Brahm, as well as by her brothers Paul Weber and Carl Weber and her sister Helen Weber Jones. Loretta is survived by her five sons: David and his wife Anita, of Vero Beach, FL; Daniel and his wife Jenny of Canton, GA; Richard and his wife Samantha Ravich of Kilmarnock, VA; Roger Eric of San Juan, Puerto Rico; and Lawrence of Manchester, CT.  She leaves one surviving brother, Earl Weber, and three sisters Jeanette Will, Irene Seibert, and Joan Schnieder and her husband Dennis, all residing in Indiana. Loretta (and Charles) were also close to her cousin Ken Weber and his wife Barbara Weber, both of whom still reside in Windsor Locks, CT.

Loretta leaves her grandchildren and great grandchildren: David's and Anita's children, Michelle Brahm and Heather Brahm Loftiss and her husband Matthew and their two children Ian and Zoe; Daniel's and Jenny's children, Heather and Jim Jackson and their son Chester, and Colin Williams and his wife Kim and their children Hannah, Trenten, Collin and Etta; and Richard's and Samantha's children, Charlie Blue and India. She also leaves many nieces and nephews.

While the date has not yet been determined, the family will have a celebration of Loretta's life in Connecticut, when her remains along with those of Charles will be interred in the Ellington Center Cemetery next to their youngest son John.

The Brahm family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Loretta's name to the Nature Conservancy at or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society .
