IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lorraine
Aprile
September 24, 1934 – May 9, 2023
Lorraine Aprile, 88 years old, passed away peacefully in her Vero Beach home on May 9, 2023. Lorraine was born in New York City on September 24, 1934 to Dorothy and John Gazda. She married her loving husband of 67 years, Louis J. Aprile, on September 10, 1955. Lorraine and Lou had five children.
Lorraine graduated from Kings County Nursing School in 1954. She went on to earn her Bachelor's Degree in Nursing in 1975 and her Master's Degree in 1981 from Long Island University. She worked as a registered nurse from 1954 until she was 75 years old. Her last
position was working for the Florida Health Department in Indian River County, where she was recognized as the Nurse of the Year for the Health Department. Lorraine enjoyed her nursing career, which included work in the OR as a surgical nurse, helping the developmentally disabled, nursing psychiatric patients with addiction disorders, and working with the health department Healthy Start Program. Lorraine was welcomed in every socioeconomic community as a loving, caring nurse.
Lorraine was extremely active in her Catholic Faith Community as an outreach nurse. She spent years sharing her faith with the developmentally disabled, allowing them to learn about their faith in preparation for the holy sacraments. She offered her nursing skills and Christian values to shut-ins in the Vero Beach Community as a Eucharistic Minister.
Lorraine had the opportunity to travel the world with her husband. She spent extended time in Greece while Louis worked there. They visited England, France, Spain, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Israel, Morocco, Jamaica, and Canada, as well as a large portion of continental United States and Hawaii.
Lorraine inspired learning and growth in her five children. She made a point of keeping her children cultured in the arts and sciences by taking them to museums, plays, operas, concerts, musicals, craft fairs, and providing science, music, dance, and art lessons.
Lorraine is survived by her husband Louis, daughter Sue (husband Dominick), son Louis (wife Cindy), daughter Joy (husband Tim), daughter Jeannie (husband Jeff), sister Maggie (husband Eric); grandchildren Nicole (Chris), Dominick (Dana), Giovanna, Kristen, Michael, Kimmy, Melissa(Jon), Ben (Richa), Serena, Julianna, Justine, Jonathan, Jennifer, Louis (Bailey), and Joey; and
