Obituary for Louise Spencer Whelan
Louise Spencer Whelan, 91 of Pelican Point, Sebastian, Fl, died Monday, April 20, 2009 at the home of her son Dr. James A. Whelan (Julia) in Sebastian. Louise was born on May 2, 1917 in Plainfield, N.J., the daughter the late H. Newton and Gladys Spencer.
Louise attended North Plainfield High School, living most of her life in North Plainfield. She worked for Public Service Electric and Gas Co. of N.J. as Customer Service Representative. She lived in Cedar Glen, Manchester, N.J. for ten years, during which time she was busily engaged in their activities. She belonged to The Dover Senior Center & Outreach. She moved to Sebastian from Toms River, N.J. in 1985.
In Sebastian, she was an active member of many organizations including Eagles Sebastian Aerie 4067, TOPS Club, Sebastian Red Hat Society, and Honorary Citizens of Boy's Town. She served for many years as a news reporter for The Sebastian Sun, and also for TOPS and Eagles. Louise enjoyed cards and belonged to several card groups.
Mrs. Whelan was predeceased by her husband James J. and grandson James D.
Survivors include her sons James A. Whelan (Julia)of Sebastian, FL, Donald S. Whelan of Lake Placid, FL, David M. Whelan (Martha) of Ottumwa, IA, Jeffrey N. Whelan of Micco, FL; daughter Nancy Lou Whelan of Vero Beach, FL; brother Dr. H. Newton Spencer of Ardmore, PA, and sister Dorthy Tonnesen of Queensbury, NY; 5 grandchildren and 6 great grand children.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to VNA Hospice Foundation, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, May 16, 2009 at Seawinds
