Lt. Col. Robert Max Schmid, US Army, Ret., 76, of Vero Beach, FL died Monday, February 9, 2009 at his home.
Lt. Col. Schmid was born April 25, 1932 in New York, NY and retired to Vero Beach in 1988 as a winter resident, before moving here as a full time resident in 2004.
Robert had served in the US Navy during the Korean War, enlisted in the US Army, and served two tours in Viet Nam. Robert retired from the US Army with the rank of Lt. Colonel. He was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church in Vero Beach and a life member of the Military Officers Association of America.
Lt. Col. Schmid is survived by his wife of 53 years, Veronica M. Schmid of Vero Beach; sons Michael Schmid of Goppingen, Germany; Matthew Schmid, and his wife Dara, of Spring Lake, NJ; and grandchildren Hayden Matthew Schmid and Victoria Evans Schmid.
Services: No services are planned locally at this time. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in New Windsor, NY at a later date.
