Luke Rivenbark, 98, born in Geneva, Alabama. Moved with his family to Vero Beach in 1926. Graduated from Vero Beach High School. Joined the Army Air Corps in 1940 where he became a pilot. Retired from the USAF in 1960.
He and his 4 brothers working for their father, John, under the direction of Waldo Sexton built the Ocean Grill, the Driftwood, the Patio and Szechuan Palace Restaurant.
After his retirement from the USAF he was self employed for a time before going to work for the Post office, retiring after 20 years.
He was an active member of the Jehovah Witnesses. He was an avid outdoors-man, enjoying gardening and fishing. But his greatest joy was time spent with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 76 years, Kathryn (Kate), his son, Richard (Judy), daughter Susan (Jack), four grandsons, Matt and David Rivenbark, Nathan Moore and Jerrad Ronda and 2 great-granddaughters, Ava Rivenbark and Keira Ronda. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Althea, brothers, Maurice, Clowers, Ford and Temer, 2 sisters Mary Blanton and Dolly Thomas, son, William and grandson, Eric Moore.
A gathering will be held on Tuesday, March 5, 2019, at 1 PM with a memorial service to follow at 2 PM at Cox Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home in Vero Beach.
The family suggests donations be made to the VNA Hospice Foundation, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960.
