Carmen Mendez, 93, of Vero Beach died Saturday, April 28, 2012 at the The Place of Vero Beach.

Mrs. Mendez was born April 9, 1919 in Havana, Cuba. She had been a resident of Vero Beach for 7 years, coming from Miami.

Prior to her retirement she worked as a professor at the University of Nebraska, and then later as a teacher at Dowling High School in Des Moines, IA.

Survivors include her daughter Mary (Kip) Jacoby of Vero Beach; son Jorge Mendez of Phoenix, AZ; granddaughter Megan (Sam) Stranzin; grandson Michael Jacoby; and granddaughter Patricia Mendez; and three great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Jose Mendez and her sons Jose and Miguel Mendez.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at the Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery in Doral, FL.
