MARJORIE LAGER COHEN Marjorie Lager Cohen, 89, of Stuart, Florida, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, September 20th, 2011, after a brief, unexpected illness. Born on November 16th, 1921, "Margie" as friends and loved ones called her, was the only child born to Gustav and Mildred Lager. She was raised in Iron Mountain, Michigan, graduated from Kingsford High School and Mounds Midway School of Nursing in Minnesota, embarking on a career as a Registered Nurse. In 1943, Margie voluntarily joined the United States Army and after basic training in Fort Dix, New Jersey, she proudly served her country during the final two years of WW ll as a First Lieutenant in the 114th General Hospital in England. After the war, Margie and her best friend moved to New Jersey where Margie worked for a doctor and then Mountainside Hospital in Montclair. She met her future husband Herm and they were married on September 1, 1950. They settled in Verona where they raised two children and owned Cohen's Stationary on Bloomfield Avenue in West Caldwell. In 1973, Marge and Herm sold their business and moved to Stuart where they lived until Herm's passing in 1990 and where Margie continued to live. Margie could usually be found on the golf course, at a concert, singing in the Vista Pines Choir, volunteering at the United Way, Council of Aging or serving at Carpenter's Kitchen, baking her "trademark" brownies (a favorite among the boys in Vista Pines), toting her nurse's bag to care for a sick friend, visiting her family, or just playing her beloved organ that Herm bought her many years ago. In recent years, Margie had the opportunity of traveling to Germany to visit her friends from Vista Pines, spent summers in Iron Mountain with her dear cousins and had the honor of attending the dedication of the Woman's War Memorial in Washington, DC as well as riding in the New York City Veteran's Day Parade on an FDNY Fire Truck with a group of World War ll Veterans. She took great pleasure in shaking the hand of the Mayor of New York City. Margie's kindness and generosity were immeasurable. Her friends were countless; a testimony to the compassionate soul that she possessed. But her greatest gift was her love and devotion to her family. Although a petite woman, Margie had a huge heart, and so is the magnitude of our loss. Margie will be forever remembered and adored by her son, David Cohen (wife Maureen) of Jasper, Georgia; her daughter, Barbara Franciosi Dunham of Wellington, Florida; grandchildren, Joseph Franciosi, Lisa Franciosi, Kristen Barrett (husband Jack) and Elizabeth Mitchell (husband Marty); great grandchildren, Anthony, Gina and Dominic Franciosi, Max and Grace Barrett, Mia, Moses and Mattie Mitchell, many loving cousins in Iron Mountain and so many friends who were blessed to know Margie, especially dearest Jere Cole who was like a son. A celebration of Margie's life will be held on Sunday, November 13th at the Vista Pines Clubhouse from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Anyone who had the pleasure of knowing Margie is invited to come and share with her family.
