Martin Stephen Harner 80, of Vero Beach, Florida, died Saturday, December 13th at the VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach. Mr. Harner was born January 19, 1928 in Clifton, New Jersey and moved to Vero Beach 8 years ago from Westport, Connecticut. He was president of Martin Wheel Company, in Fairfield New Jersey, a manufacturer of diamond grinding wheels, from 1960 until 1973. From 1973 until 1990 he was a principal of National Brands Outlet,, headquartered in Clifton, New Jersey, a chain of 30 men's retail stores throughout the east coast
He was a person of character, supportive and loving to those around him. His smile could light up a room and his laugh was contageous. Involved in Little League for 12 years, both parents and kids admired him for his supportiveness and tact. An avid athlete, he played tennis and golf and was as quick on his feet as he was with his smile. He was a studier of art and history and greatly respected Robert E Lee for his character and bravery.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Lois Harner of Vero Beach, two sons, Mark Harner of New Orleans, Louisiana, and Gary Harner of Pompton Lakes, New Jersey, and 2 step-children, Jacqueline Samwick of Westport, Connecticut and Marc Samwick of Scarsdale New York and two grandchildren, Ryan Tripodi of Westport, Connecticut and Dawn Harner of Wayne, New Jersey.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in Westport, Connecticut.

He died peacefully surrounded by those he loved. We will miss him.
