Carrow
November 23, 1934 – August 15, 2021
Mary Christine (nee DeCourcey) Carrow 86, of Vero Beach, passed away peacefully August 15, 2021. The second oldest of 13 children born in Roundstone, County Galway, Ireland and immigrated to Philadelphia in 1952 at age 17. She married the late James F. Carrow Jr. in 1958 and had four daughters. They lived together on Crispin Street surrounded by amazing neighbors and friends for 45 years before permanently relocating to Vero Beach in 2003.
Mary was a very special lady always caring for her siblings, family and friends. After arriving in Philadelphia, she soon found work as a nanny and later enjoyed many years working at Williamson's Restaurant on the Main Line where they had their beautiful wedding reception. She also worked with many special friends at 21 West and Fisher's Restaurants. She enjoyed her weekly neighborhood card games and hosting big Sunday family gatherings. She enjoyed traveling, visiting family in Ireland and England, summers in Wildwood, NJ, and spending time with her family. Mary especially enjoyed sharing all of her wonderful stories about growing up in Errisbeg, Roundstone. She had the luck of the Irish at her favorite
casino and volunteered at the Vero Beach Theatre. Mary had many friends from the Cambridge Park community and was a member of the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed retirement in Florida with her sister and lifetime friend Anna. They were very close. Mary was also an active member of St. John of the Cross Catholic Church.
Mary is survived by her 3 daughters Ellen (Robert) Hobson, Chrissy Carrow, and Kathleen (Michael) Chalich; grandchildren, Aaron, Sarah, James, Ryan, Jacqueline, Katie and Connor; great grandchildren, Tatiana and Khalil; sons in law Don McPherson and Mark Hunter; 10 brothers and sisters, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews of her large Irish family who she loved dearly.
She is preceeded in death by her husband, James F. Carrow Jr., a daughter Mary Elizabeth Carrow and her parents John DeCourcey and Ellen Gorham DeCourcey.
Visitation will be held at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church, Vero Beach, Thursday, August 26, 2021 from 10:00 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial to be Celebrated at 11:00 AM. Interment to follow at South Florida National Cemetery, Lake Worth, FL at 1:30 PM.
