IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary Mccolm
Harrington
April 21, 1939 – February 22, 2026
Mary Harrington, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and all around class act, passed away on February 22nd, 2026.
Mary spent the majority of her long life making the world beautiful. During her career in fashion, she created wardrobes for some of the best dressed women in South Florida, designed stunning wedding dresses for three of her daughters, and had the honor of making vestments for the papal entourage during Saint Pope John Paul II's visit to Miami. In addition to her dressmaking skills, Mary was an accomplished Master Gardener. Although she was raised on a farm in Hillsboro, Ohio, Mary was a city girl at heart, and her beautifully designed garden was an urban oasis bursting with flowers, veggies, and herbs, which found their way into the many gourmet meals she loved to prepare. However, Mary's most beautiful contribution to this world was her extraordinary devotion to Don, her husband, best friend, dance partner, and love of her life.
Mary and Don were married for 61 years and, after raising five children, they set out to see the world. Mary, a lifelong learner who loved adventure, explored the ancient pyramids of Egypt, trekked across the savannahs of Africa on safari, walked on the Great Wall of China, cruised down the Danube, experienced the White Nights of a Russian summer, and sat in a papal audience with Saint Pope John Paul II. Mary brought her beauty to the world, and the world is better off for it.
Mary's five children, Gail, Mary, Tom, Patty, and Julie did their best to run her ragged, but they were no match for her remarkable energy, patience, love, and sense of humor. From evenings of little league baseball, roller rink dropoffs, Girl Scout chaperoning, or church carnival volunteering, Mary never looked frazzled and was always the perfect picture of poise and class. As hectic as it was to run a household of seven, Mary made it look effortless. Her five children gave her six grandchildren, Michelle, George, Joe, Amber, Shannon, and Erin, all of whom have also failed to drive her crazy, even on the rare occasions when they all get together under one roof at the same time. But the greatest gift she gave her children was loving their dad. They were more than husband and wife, they were a united front, best friends, and the perfect example of what love truly is.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Gene and Edith Mccolm, her sister Norma, her brother Paul, and her daughter Gail. She is survived by her loving husband, Don Harrington, her 4 children, and her 6 grandchildren who will miss her dearly.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests you consider donating to plant a tree, make a contribution to your favorite charity, or go on an adventure of your own in honor of Mary's memory.
