IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary Magdelene
O'Toole
January 18, 1927 – November 15, 2025
Mary Magdalene O'Toole, died Saturday, November 15, 2025, in her sleep. She was born to the late Andrew and Mary "Mae" Schoenig on January 18, 1927, in New York City. Mary graduated from Bishop McDonnell Memorial High School in Brooklyn, New York. While she studied Nursing, which was her passion, she departed school before graduation. She married the late Raymond D. O'Toole in 1948, and they lived together initially in New York City before relocating to Hicksville, New York in 1954. They later retired and moved to the outskirts of Vero Beach, Florida in 1989.
Mary held a variety of jobs throughout her life while she raised four children. Her final position before retirement was as a Line Supervisor at Estee Lauder. However, her most passionate one was being Mom.
Mary was an active member of Our Lady of Mercy Parish in Hicksville where she volunteered for a variety of positions as her motto was either – "where do you need me to work" or "where can I do the most good." She continued the tradition of serving at St. Helen's of Vero Beach. She also volunteered with Meals on Wheels.
Mary also loved to travel and did it often with her husband of over 55 years before he passed in 2004 to include over 20 cruises and numerous trips each year with her children while they were growing up. She also loved to crochet blankets and other gifts for her family and friends.
Above all she will be remembered by her deep faith in Our Lord, her devotion to the Blessed Mother, her warm smile and laughter. In her later years her goal was to make at least one person laugh each day.
Mary is survived by her children Maureen (Karl) Reimers, of Port St. Lucie, Florida; Kathleen, of Mineral Ridge, Ohio; Marie (Greg) of Acworth, Georgia; and Raymond (Patty) of Huntingtown, Maryland. She also is survived by nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 2 p.m. on Friday, November 21st at St. Helen Catholic Church with burial to be later at Calverton National Cemetery on Long Island, New York.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Treasure Coast Hospice.
