Mary Louise Schlitt was born on October 2, 1930 in Wabasso, Florida and passed peacefully in her sleep at home August 8, 2021. She was the daughter of Tom and Alice Etters. Mary graduated from Vero Beach High School in 1948 and was the Head Majorette of the Vero Beach Fighting Indians Band.
Mary was an active member of St. Helen Catholic Church, St Helen Council of Catholic Women, Indian River Serra Club, Hibiscus Garden Club, and an active volunteer of St. Helen Altar Society, Harvest Festival, Cub Scouts of America, and St. Vincent DePaul. In remembrance of her husband Frank after his death, Mary donated and built a Habitat House for Humanity. Support from the extended Schlitt family helped to complete the project. Mary also volunteered at St. Helen School doing many jobs related to supporting her children and grandchildren. Mary was an active member of the Wolf Laurel Country Club in Mars Hill, North Carolina where she spent her summers enjoying the cool weather. Mary enjoyed many years of tennis and traveling abroad.
She was predeceased by her parents Tom and Alice Etters, her Husband of 50 years Frank J. Schlitt, her son, John Thomas Schlitt, and her sisters Anabelle Smith and Alice Denmark. Survivors include her children, Sue Cruden (Ross), Patti LaJoie (Roger), Richard Schlitt, Fran Prossick (Dave), Debbie Brenner (John), Jim Schlitt (Kim), Annette Gibson (Teresa) and Frank Schlitt Jr (Karen); grandchildren, Mike, Jon, Danny, Allison, Whitney, Jennifer, Kimberly, Joey, Natalie, William, Terry, Paul, Steven, Brian, Jessica, Bailey, Katie, Megan, Josh, Chloe, and Kendall. She is also survived by her great grandchildren Dustin, Anya, Jackson, Mary Kathryn, Evan, John, Coleton, Hudson, Braydon, Caroline, Annabel, Charlie, Katie, Malachi, Neriah, Isaac, Solomon, Liam, Landon, and two on the way. She is also survived by her sister Phyllis Campbell.
The family will receive friends on Friday, August 13th from 6:00pm until 7:00pm with a Prayer Service to begin at 7:00pm at St. Helen Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am, Saturday, August 14th at St. Helen Catholic Church. Interment with follow at Crestlawn Cemetery. The Schlitt Family invite you to a reception at St. Helen Parish Center following the Interment.
