Mary Frances Urick Cummings passed away on February 24, 2009 in her rsidence after a long struggle with cancer. Mary Frances Urick was born 29th, September 1926 in Boxtown, Ashland, Kentucky to David H. Urick (1904-1973) and Sarah F. Nichols (1907-1982). She grew up with her brother, Charles H. Urick (1924-1993) and many family members in Ashland. She was briefly married in 1945 to Tony Mott of Columbus, Ohio and they divorced. On 7th, June 1948, she married Charles E. Cummings (1916-1989) at New Boston, Scioto County Ohio. They lived in Columbus, Ohio until 1967; then moved to Lake Worth, Florida.
They had 3 children born in Columbus, Ohio; Charles D. (1950); Mary E. (1952); and Alesa A. (1959). They lived in Lake Worth for a short time, then moved to Tequesta. They relocated back and forth to Ohio several times but Mary settled in Vero Beach area after her husbands death in 1989.
She worked as a waitress for 20 years in Colombus, Ohio; then for Publix Super Market as a meat wrapper for 20 years in Vero Beach, Florida.
She leaves three children, seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Her son, Charles and Cheerie live in Sebastian, FL.; Mary Elizabeth (Liz) Detillian lives in Jupiter, FL.; and Alesa and Jack Wright live in Bainridge, Ohio.
Preceding her death were two granddaughters of Mary Elizabeth.
Surviving grandchildren are Stephen Blades of Jupiter, FL; Elliott Wright of Chillicothe, Ohio; Heather Cummings of Vero Beach, FL; Abigail Greeno of Chillicothe, Ohio; Charles R. Cummings of Melbourne, FL; Natalie Osborne of chillicothe, Ohio and Jesse Wright of Bainbridge, Ohio.
Marys lineage on both sides goes back to the 1850's in Southern Ohio and Greenup County Kentucky. Allied families are: Kazee, Hull, Goddard, Bennett, Bonser, Dehart and Barney.
Mary was a loving and devoted mother; a loyal and faithful wife. She
was also a devoted Jehovahs Witness in the Vero Beach Kingdom Hall. She will be missed deely by all that knew and loved her.
Cremation will be in Sebastian, FL. Memorial Service will be at the Vero Beach Kingdom Hall on March 14th, 2pm. Interment will be at Floral Hills Memory Gardens Cemetery in Massieville, Ohio, where her ashes will spread next to her beloved husband Charles E. Chuck Cummings.
Donations may be made in her honor to the Vero Beach VNA/Hospice; or the Vero Beach Kingdom Hall.
