It is with great sadness that we, his remaining family, announce the passing of Mathew Charles Gordon, Jr, who has departed this life peacefully on March 20, 2025, at the age of 71.
Matt was born January 27, 1954, in Nuremberg, Germany during the time his father Mathew Charles Gordon, Sr, a career Army Sergeant was stationed in Germany, along with Matt's mother Ethel Ruth Gordon. The family returned to the States in 1955 and resided lived in Edison, New Jersey. Matt attended grade school in New Jersey while their house was being built in Vero Beach, Florida and they moved in 1964.
Matt went to Vero Beach High School where he participated in - The LEO Club, The Swim Club and The Air Force ROTC program, which involved many activities until his graduation in 1972.
Matt went on to attend the Indian River Community College in Fort Pierce and at that time he started working as a Chef at the Holiday Inn in Vero Beach. Matt was a part of The Community College CORALE, and had many performances until graduation in 1974.
Later Matt moved to Boca Raton and attended Florida Atlantic University (FAU) while he was working as a Chef at Boca Hotels. While at FAU he was apart of the FAU Chorus & Symphony, where they preformed at The Spring Coral Concert, The Lord Nelson Mass, The Pirates of Penzance and Fantasia.
Matt became a member of Local Union No 631 of The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, Moving Picture Technicians, Artists and Allied Crafts of The United States.
After FAU Matt moved to Sacramento, California for a few years. He started working as a Technical Stage employee in the moving pictures, Disneyland and with Artist's such as - David Copperfield shows, Hank Williams Jr, The Judds, Harry Connick Jr, Bob Dylan, Santana and Julio Igiesias. He also worked with actors Jan Michael Vincent (Airwolf), Pilot Asbaek (Game of Thrones). Matt was also an actor himself, he was an extra in the movie Black Friday.
Matt moved back to Florida, RV living between Vero Beach and Orlando, and continued working with Local Union No 631. Matt worked as a Technical Stage craftsman, electrical lighting engineer on productions for Disney World, and other theatrical shows & concerts for 20 years until his accident, which left him disabled. Matt started his own business called Delightful Jewelry & Gifts, for several years.
Matt enjoyed many, many things. Along with those things were reading, music, METV, wine and teaching others on how things work. He never had a cell phone, but loved his computer! Where he ran his business and was in touch with the world, and stayed in touch with his faith and friends.
A heartfelt thanks goes out to the nurses and staff at the Sea Breeze Rehab & Nursing Center. Who provided a peaceful and compassionate environment during the last years of his transition from this life to the next.
A memorial service will be held on April 12, 2025, at 11:30 am. Location is at the Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, 6026 North Us Highway 1, Fort Pierce, Florida 34946. If you wish to send flowers, please send them to Hillcrest Memorial Gardens no later than 10:00 am on April 12th.
Matt was never married nor did he have any children, but he was loved and will be missed. He also will remain in the hearts of all who knew him. We only share a moment in time with each other, please be kind and forgiving to all in need… May God be with you Amen 🙏
