Michael Martin McCabe, born in Pittsburgh, PA on November 12, 1948 departed from us in body, but not in spirit on September 1, 2018 at VNA Hospice House, surrounded by the love of his family and friends.

Michael attended and graduated, Augusta Military Academy and Kent State University. He moved to Vero Beach, FL in the 80's where he was able to apply and nurture his true life calling, as a community caregiver and supporter.

The son of William S McCabe Jr MD and Anne Teslovich McCabe, he was preceded in death by his son Michael Shay McCabe of the United States Navy. Survivors include his daughter, Erin McCabe of Crested Butte, CO; son, Nicholas Perry McCabe and daughter in law Melody Anne McCabe with grandchildren Gavin Andrew McCabe, Madilyn Anne McCabe and Elliott Shayne McCabe of Vero Beach, FL; sisters, Irene Ann & Sharon Rose McCabe both from Pittsburgh, PA; niece, Mercedes Bigelow of Orlando, FL; The Mahoney Family of Catonsville, MD, the Teslovich Family of Donora, PA, and the Perry Sisters of Pompano Beach, FL.

Michael will primarily be mourned and remembered by family, friends, and the larger community of Vero Beach and the Treasure Coast where he lived in fellowship for over 30 years, building and managing many community projects for Proctor Construction Company. Prior to starting his career in construction in the 70's which focused on Correctional facilities throughout the country and before moving to Vero Beach, Michael explored several odd ball jobs as a younger man in Pittsburgh, PA.

These jobs ranged from a farmer to working at the XYZ zipper factory, GM factories, and he even moved pianos and houses. All told, he contributed over 100 community facilities totaling over 1 billion dollars. Although Michael previously had the opportunity to work on numerous high profile projects all over the world, he knew his heart did not belong there, rather it belonged at home where he could make a lasting and positive impact for his community and friends.  If you asked Michael what project in his career would he be most proud of, it would not be the most expensive or elaborate, but rather the most cherished and utilized by his community.

One of Michael's most proud projects was the successful renovation of the entire campus of Vero Beach High School, which was accomplished while over several thousand students safely continued their educational efforts, roaming the halls and occupied the campus for a normal school year.

Some of his fonder projects included the Vero Beach Museum of Arts & The Vero Beach High School Performing Arts Center, North County Aquatic Center, numerous Indian River State College facilities and most local schools. Michael is proud to leave a legacy of safe and strong buildings for the community of the Treasure Coast.

Whenever possible Michael was always present at his grandchildren's sports games and practices, always supporting them. His favorite tradition was making sure they had the biggest and best Christmas tree every year. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends, Gardening, Golfing, Fishing and Sports. Michael was an avid Pittsburgh Penguins, Pirates, and Steelers fan and was present at several of the City's Championships.

Lastly, it was Michael's gift to work toward community and fellowship as a Friend of Bill and in turn to be enriched by their faith and good will. Michael was a long time member of Alcoholics Anonymous for over 30 years.  He was a member of Noontime Recovery group before moving to Sebastian and making Club Sebastian his new home group.  It was Michael's gift to work with others in need and he helped many young men find a life of sobriety and fulfillment Michael was one of the most SELFLESS men anyone could ever meet and truly made the world a better place, not for him, but for YOU and I. He is a treasure that will be cherished and truly missed.

The family will receive friends from 5:30 PM until 6:30 PM, Saturday, September 29, 2018 at Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home in Vero Beach. A Celebration of Michael's Life will begin at 6:30.
