Michael Petriw age 93 of Vero Beach, FL passed away on July 18, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. Michael was born in the Ukraine and had moved to Vero Beach, FL over 20 years ago from New Britain, CT. Michael retired from Textron Corporation in Newington CT. Michael as a teenager spent 4 years in Germany in the Nazi prison labor camps and after the war he moved to Belgium where he worked in the coal mines for 8 years prior to moving to the United States in 1956. When entering the US he resided in New Britain, CT for a number of years before moving to Vero Beach, FL. He is survived by his wife Joyce Petriw of Vero Beach, his son Michael Petriw of Bristol, CT, his son Jerry Petriw and his wife Judith of Port Saint Lucie, Fl, his grandson Daniel Petriw of Stratford, CT, and a number of relatives still living in the Ukraine. Calling hours will be on Monday, July 27, 2015 from 9:30am until 10:30am at the Cox Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am, at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the Crestlawn Cemetery in Vero Beach, Fl.
