Mildred Louise Miller (nee Houghton) was born October 20, 1923 along with her twin brother, Melvin (Buck) Houghton. She passed January 28, 2014 at the home of her daughter, Christine Stauffer. She is survived by James and Anita (Miller) Duggan and David and Christine (Miller) Stauffer; her four grandchildren: Tom Watson, Sara Watson Minton, Jessica Stauffer Rose, and Shawn Stauffer; and her four great grandchildren: Gillian Watson, Naudia Watson, Gryphon Minton, and Alexandria Minton. She was the last survivor of fourteen children.
The Houghton farm is where she grew up with her thirteen brothers and sisters, located in Windber, Pennsylvania. She graduated high school in 1941, the only high school graduate of the family. During the war she worked at an ammunitions factory, then married and moved to Wilmington, Delaware in 1952. After 30 years with Acme Grocery chain she retired. She accomplished a life goal by hiking part of the Appalachian Trail and enjoyed volunteering at Brandywine State Park helping with education about wildlife. Delaware was her home until she moved with her daughter, Chris, to Florida in 2006.
Her joys in life were: family, reading, coffee, the mountains, wildlife, Acey Deucy, a good box of chocolate, sporty cars that went fast, picking berries, jigsaw puzzles, and a beautiful sunrise.
