Obit: Nancy I. Edmunds
On Tuesday, March 3, 2009, Nancy passed away after a courageous battle against cancer.
She was a loving wife and devoted mother of six and is survived by husband Frederick; children Stephanie Adams, Dr. Geoffrey Edmunds, Linda Friedrich, Dr. Frederick Edmunds, Jr., Emme Edmunds and Thomas Edmunds; brother George Irving; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild and dog Putch.
Formerly of Voorheesville, NY, then Gettysburg, PA, Nancy touched untold lives with her straight-up, friendly and caring nature. Greatly respected by friends, neighbors and colleagues, she was a pillar of strength and stability in the communities she participated in. Her honesty, integrity and curiosity served as a model for her children. She was the love of her husband, Freds life, and provided the foundation for their remarkable relationship.
Born March 2, 1931 in Bronx, NY to Dr. George and Alda Irving, Nancy attended the University of Rochester where she met and fell in love with Fred. The following thirty years were devoted to raising their large family, much of the time on a farm in upstate NY. She worked as a Real Estate agent/broker with Roberts Realty in the Albany, NY area for 20 years. Fred Edmunds practiced law in Albany for 37 years.
Nancy and Fred moved to Gettysburg in the early 90's to fulfill the dream of establishing a Civil War museum to display their collection of antique arms. After years of wintering in Vero Beach, FL they decided to make the move permanent in 2006.
Nancy - wife, mother, friend, neighbor and colleague - you will be dearly missed. May you rest in peace. We love you.
A memorial celebration of her life will take place 2 PM, Sunday, March 15, 2009 at the Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home in Vero Beach.
