Nancy Lee Long, 69, of Vero Beach, FL, with her husband Terry by her side at the VNA Hospice House, went home to be with the Lord on October 19, 2014.

She was born in Indianapolis, IN, on March 29, 1945 and been a resident of Vero Beach since 1982, coming from Brownsburg, IN. After attending Shortridge High School for two years and graduating from North Central High School in Indianapolis, IN, Nancy enrolled at Indiana University, Bloomington, IN in 1963. At the end of her junior year, this physics major met a mathematics major by the name of Terry Long from Marion, IN. They were married in the bride's Indianapolis home on June 6, 1967 with Terry's father as the minister.

As two "peas in a pod", Nancy and Terry would first work for the Boeing Aircraft Company in Seattle, WA as design engineers. A career change after 8 months in Seattle, took the Longs to Evansville, IN, where both Nancy and her husband embarked in mathematics teaching careers which would span 14 towns in 8 states at 9 secondary schools, 1 junior high school, and 4 college/universities. Along the way the Longs would raise two beautiful daughters and earn Master's degrees in physics from the University of Wisconsin-Superior and Ph D's in mathematics from the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, MS.

A gifted and personable mathematics teacher, Nancy taught several years at the St. Edward's School in Vero Beach, FL, and retired in 2005 after closing her career at the South Carolina Governor's School for Science and Mathematics and Coker College in Hartsville, SC.

Nancy is survived by her husband of 47 years, Terry Long and their two daughters, Christina Long and Robin Reading. She was predeceased by her parents, Kendall Harrison of West Salem, IL and Helen (Copeland) Harrison of Hagerstown, IN, and a sister, Jane (Harrison) Cuneo of Gaithersburg, MD.

A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00pm, Monday, November 3rd, 2014, at Cox Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home in Vero Beach, FL. Memorial contributions may be made to the VNA Hospice House, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL, 32960.
