Nancy Lea Offutt (ne Wynn), born in New York City on October 27, 1947 to the late Leo Christian Wynn and Sadie "Joan" Weiss Wynn, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2017.

She moved to Florida in 1960 and resided in St. Petersburg Beach, Clearwater and Tarpon Springs, where she was employed by the Bank of Clearwater, Golf Hosts International and Palm State Bank. She was the first woman elected to the Tarpon Springs City Commission.

In 1980 she married Harry C. Offutt III and relocated to Vero Beach with her son Ryan. She became active in community, civic and political affairs. She effectively addressed issues and legislation on local and state levels involving growth management, land use regulations, property rights, economic development, the environment and the arts. She was an advocate for women's issues and reproductive rights.

Nancy held positions with the Realtors Association of Indian River, Indian River County Chamber of Commerce, Indian River Arts Council, Realtors Association of Martin County and Treasure Coast Builders Association. She was active in many community events and causes, including Planned Parenthood, Substance Abuse Council, National Organization of Women and United Way. She served on the Indian River County Affordable Housing Task Force, Florida Homebuilders Association's Workforce Housing Task Force and Martin County Business Development Board and numerous other task forces throughout the four-county Treasure Coast. She was founding co-chair of Indian River County Republicans for Choice and on the board of Laura Riding Jackson Foundation.

Nancy possessed a rare combination of brains, beauty, humor and grace and will be remembered for her kind heart, witty sense of humor, eccentric style and love of all things whimsical. She loved accessories and always had the perfect pair of earrings to complete her outfit, and she often doled out items from her extensive collection to friends and family when she saw a good match.

She enjoyed family celebrations, hosting elaborate Halloween parties, time spent with friends, reading, writing, serving on boards and thrift store shopping.

Her home reflected her eclectic style and love of color. She loved decorating and "re-purposing" her thrift store finds. But above all, she maintained a warm and welcoming home for the many visitors she loved to entertain. She had an uncanny ability to make everyone feel special and, for anyone going through a difficult time, she provided a safe haven, an open ear, and a loving hug. There are few people that make such an impact on so many people. Those who knew her were blessed by her many gifts.

For her life motto she quoted Maya Angelou: "My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style."

She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Harry C. Offutt III, and their blended family, including son Ryan Christian Branch; daughter Ashlea Wynn Offutt Murphy (Kevin), Fort Lauderdale; sons Harry C. Offutt IV, Fort Pierce; William Offutt (Sally); daughters Vicki Offutt Degroat (Al); Melissa Offutt Brewster (Jon); Deborah Offutt and Rebecca Offutt, all of Vero Beach; grandchildren Dorothy Nicole Offutt Perinei (Adilson), Alyssa Offutt Trimm (Jarrett), William Edward Offutt Jr.; Cori, Laney and Ruby DeGroat; Elizabeth Brewster; Ava and Declan Murphy; great-grandchildren Savannah and Clay Trimm and Delta Sofia Perinei; her cats Cleo and Leo; and an extended family of relatives and friends from every walk of life.

A celebration of life will be planned; details to follow. In lieu of flowers, please honor Nancy by practicing random acts of kindness and fabulousness.
