Nicholas Romano, Sr., 86, of Vero Beach, FL died peacefully Thursday, April 17, 2009 at his home with his family by his side..
Nicholas was born June 20, 1922 in Waterbury, CT and had been a resident of Vero Beach for 21 years, coming here from Milford, CT.
He was a Longshoreman at the New Haven Terminal in New Haven, CT. Mr. Romano was a WWII veteran serving in the U.S. Army and was a member of the International Longshoreman Association, the Knights of Columbus, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Italian American Civic Association in Vero Beach.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Jean M. Romano of Vero Beach; son Martin Romano, and his wife Theresa, of West Haven, CT; son Alan Romano, and his wife Linda, of Vero Beach; brother Anthony; sisters Josie and Ana; four grandchildren; Nicole Romano, Melissa Romano, Alan Romano, Jr., and Andrea Romano; and five great-grandchildren; Megan, Matthew, Andrea, Alyssa, and Alexandra.
He was predeceased by his sons Nicholas Romano, Jr. and Vincent Romano, and brothers Ralph Romano, Joseph Romano, and Fred Romano.
Service: A memorial gathering will take place 11 - 12 Noon, Saturday, April 25, 2009 at Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home in Vero Beach with a prayer service beginning at 12 Noon.
