Obituary

Norma (Nickerson) Taft Rohrs, "Nicky," departed this world on Sunday January 7, 2018. Nicky was born in Somerville, MA in 1926, lived and attended schools in Lexington, MA, and summered on Bustins Island, ME.  She was a proud graduate of the University of New Hampshire and a member of Theta Upsilon sorority.  It was at UNH where she met her husband, Nathaniel C. Taft.  After their marriage they lived in New Hampshire; Long Island, New York; and for many years in Lexington, MA.  They summered in Megansett, MA where they were members of the Megansett Yacht Club and actively raced Cape Cod Knockabouts. While in Lexington she was a member of Hancock Congregational Church, a Cub Scout den mother, and a member of the Junior League of Boston.  In 1967 they moved to Marblehead, MA, were members of the Boston Yacht Club and cruised on their ketch, Stella Mare, from Maine to Cape Cod.  In 1975 they made their home in Vero Beach, FL She spent many years as a "pink lady" volunteering at the hospital's thrift shop. Her first husband, Nathaniel C. Taft, died in 1978. In 1984 she married Robert (Bob) Rohrs who died in 1998. She was a member of the Vero Beach Yacht Club where she could frequently be seen playing bridge with her many friends.

She loved her family, swimming, boating, birds, wildlife, flowers, playing cards (cribbage, bridge, hearts) with friends, big band music, musical comedies, seascapes, good manners, the five o'clock pause for conversation, and everything in its assigned place.

Nicky was predeceased by her parents, Donald & Carolyn Nickerson; brother, Donald "Bud" Nickerson; sister, Carolyn Kitchin; first husband, Nathaniel Taft; and second husband, Robert Rohrs.  She is survived by sons, Dr. David (Anne) Taft of Harpswell, ME, Robert Taft of North Falmouth, MA, Donald Taft of Mount Horeb, WI; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; "daughters-by-choice" Robin Rohrs of Ft. Lauderdale, FL., Kim (Bud) Bentley of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; Cheryl (Winston) Yost of Boise, ID, and Susan (Gary) Miller of Sheridan, WY.

A gathering will be from 2 to 4 pm, Tuesday, January 16th at Cox-Gifford-Seawinds Funeral Home, 1950 20th Street, Vero Beach, FL.

Nicky's ashes will be buried in the Taft family plot in Oxford, MA at a time yet to be determined.

In lieu of flowers, memorials could be made to VNA, 1110 35 th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960.
