Norris Dane Penland, 86, passed away peacefully at home in Pembroke Pines, FL on Friday, July 31, 2015. He was born on May 3, 1929 in Weaverville, NC, to Walton Dane and Amelia Hansen Penland. Growing up in his younger years in Vero Beach, FL, graduating with the class of 1947 from Vero Beach High School. Norris joined the Army Air Corps, was employed with the Zigrang Groves and the United States Post Office in Vero Beach. In 1962, he began training nine months to become a Postal Inspector of Fradudulent Mail and retired to Miami, FL, after 25 years of service.
He was predeceased by his parents and his wife, Ethel May Hammill Penland. Norris is survived by his two daughters, Dr. Mary Cecile Penland and husband, Dr. Alej Garcia of Boulder, CO and San Jose, CA, and Helen Penland of Coconut Creek, FL, brother, Carl W. Penland of Salisbury, MD, sisters, Annabelle P. Martin of Palm Bay, FL and Carolyn P. Rice of Vero Beach, FL.
A Visitation will be from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, on Saturday, August 8, 2015 at the Cox Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home with a short service to follow and committal will follow the service in Crestlawn Cemetery.
