Opal Ope Silverman, a lifelong resident of Vero Beach, FL, passed away Monday, February 8, 2010. Her funeral service will be Thursday, February 11th at 11:00 am at the Church of God 20th Avenue with Rev. Jerry Shepherd officiating. She will be laid to rest immediately following at Crestlawn Cemetery. Her family will receive friends and relatives from 5:00 7:00pm on Wednesday, February 10th at Cox-Gifford Funeral Home.
Opal was born June 13, 1926 to Jesse and Sarah Holland in Vero Beach, FL. She married Edgar Lohman and together they raised three sons. Opal was a glamorous woman and an adoring mother who lovingly doted on her three boys. In 1969 she met and married Irv Silverman and they enjoyed a life together of family times and traveling. Particularly memorable were the Christmas and Easter holidays she and her family spent together and Opal had an amazing ability each year to make them sparkle. The anticipation is as much fun as the event was a common phrase Ope would share as she prepared the many details for each holiday that created a lasting memory for everyone in the family. It was Opals consummate goal to be the best mother and grandmother she could possibly be. Often referred to by her family as the pied piper, Opal was always there for anyone in her family that needed her.
She devoted herself to her family and will be missed by all those who survive her; her three sons Lowell and Nancy Lohman, Victor and Mary Lohman, all of Ormond Beach, FL; Daryl and Christine Lohman of Tampa, FL; her 5 grandchildren Brian, Ty, Chris, Lauren and Michael Lohman, and her 4 great-grandchildren Taylor, Jordan, Jacob and Tristen Lohman; her sister Pansy Odom; her sister in law Claudia Holland, and her nephews and their families Jimmy Odom, Mark Odom, and Rex Holland. She was preceded in death by her husband Irv Silverman, her brother Gene Holland and her brother in law Calvin Odom.
