Patrick Joseph
Donovan, III
Apr 22, 1945 — Jul 3, 2026
Patrick J Donovan III, 81, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2026, in Vero Beach, Florida.
Born on April 22, 1945, in Chicago, Illinois, Patrick spent his childhood in Chicago's South Shore neighborhood and his summers in Long Beach, Indiana. He remained deeply proud of his South Side roots throughout his life. He was a graduate of St. Philip Neri Grade School, Mount Carmel High School (Class of 1963), and the University of Notre Dame. A proud veteran, Patrick served in the United States Army National Guard before building a successful career as a respected sales executive in commercial real estate.
Patrick was preceded in death by his wife, Christiana Donovan (née Gurk); his parents, Marjorie and Patrick Donovan; and his brother, Robert Donovan. He is survived by his devoted life partner of 23 years, Cathy Glunz; his loving children, Christie (Tim Carney) and Patrick Donovan IV (Patricia Dannevik); his cherished grandson, Griffin Carney, who lovingly called him "Poppy"; his sister, Lisa Spector (Howard); his brother, James Donovan (Laura); Cathy's son Chris Glunz (Allie and new baby Jack), his nieces and nephews, Clare (Brian, William, Matilda), Emmett (Jamie, Molly, Charlie), Arthur (Heather), Philip (Jenna), Liza (Rayne), and Matt (Ashley); and many beloved extended family members and lifelong friends.
A faithful Catholic, Patrick's greatest joy was his family. He was immensely proud of his children and grandson, treasuring every opportunity to be together. He was a lifelong supporter of the Mount Carmel Caravan and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, taking special pride in watching Griffin continue the Mount Carmel tradition.
Known to many as a true gentleman, Patrick will be remembered for his impeccable class and style, signature hats, warm wit, genuine kindness, and extraordinary ability to make everyone feel valued. His legacy lives on through the love he gave, the friendships he nurtured, and the example of living with integrity, compassion, humility, and grace.
Celebration of Life to come this fall.
