IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Paul Francis
Glass
June 24, 1945 – September 7, 2024
Paul Francis Glass, 79, of Vero Beach, passed away peacefully with loved ones by his side on September 7, 2024.
Paul was a member of Hope United Presbyterian Church in Plainfield, Indiana and American Legion, Post 39 in Vero Beach, Florida. Paul was a creative man whose artistic talents ranged from woodworking and woodcarving to beautiful stained-glass creations. He loved music, old war movies, and his puzzles.
Paul was born to the late Frank and Mary Glass on June 24, 1945 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Paul was a 1963 graduate of Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis. After graduating high school, Paul joined the Army National Guard of Indiana and his service was always a point of pride. He wore his favorite Army hat nearly every time he left the house.
Paul began his telecommunications career at Indiana Bell Telephone Company after high school and it is there that he met his late wife, Wilma Ann Allison. His career in telecom spanned 4 decades. It was not long after his 1997 retirement from AT&T that he decided to rejoin the telecom industry working for TCG/AT&T and Egix/Cincy Bell. He was well respected in the industry and was known to hold a great deal of knowledge. Those who worked with him often credit him for being a great teacher and manager and someone who could fix anything. In his retirement, he always enjoyed being able to talk shop with anyone familiar with that industry.
Paul married the late Wilma Ann Allison in 1967. They began their married life in Greenwood, Indiana before moving to Indianapolis where they resided until relocating to Vero Beach in 2019. Paul loved the trips he and Ann took together. He would talk about their many trips to Madison, Indiana or the fun they had going to hockey games or visiting the Haufbrau House in Newport, Kentucky. Most often, though, he reflected on the time they spent on Moose Lake in Minnesota at the home of Ann's parents. They both loved fishing, and they did that every day they spent there. He was always proud of his contributions to his in-laws' house on the lake; drawing the plans for it and spending time on the construction was something he spoke fondly of often.
Paul's carpentry skills did not stop there; he spent many years working as a carpenter for a custom home builder and also helped his own father with a substantial addition to their family home. Later in life, he continued to help his children and their families with projects around their homes and, while he might never have admitted it, he really enjoyed those opportunities.
Paul had a great love for all things related to the military. He took many trips to the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force, enjoyed seeing the Blue Angels perform, and would always show deep emotion when ever he heard the National Anthem and Taps or saw a military flyover. He also enjoyed working with his hands and spent countless hours carving wood into beautiful pieces. He always enjoyed a good puzzle and would spend hours putting them together. He never outgrew his love for models and continued to build various types up until his final days.
Paul is survived by his children Theresa (Scott) Moody, Lawrence (Pamela) Glass and Melissa (Rick) Mendez; grandchildren Kyle (Ana), Madelyn (Mike), Ethan, Jessica (Andrew), Ashley (Jake), Danni, Josie (Tyler) and Sawyer; great-grandchildren Alice and Beau (arriving late 2024); & a sister Marie (Sam) Slevin.
A Memorial Service will take place on Friday, October 4, 2024 at 6 pm at Cox-Gifford Seawinds Funeral Home, Vero Beach with a memorial gathering from 4 - 6 pm.
