Obituary

Paul Frederick Fred Bubendey died February 16, 2009 at Somerset House. Fred of Oak Harbor, Vero Beach, FL was born March 27, 1911 in Brooklyn, NY. He was a graduate of Polytechnic Preparatory Country Day School, class of 1929, and Columbia College, class of 1933 where he joined the Alpha Delta Phi Fraternity. His business career began in 1933 with the Corn Exchange Bank in New York which merged with Chemical Bank in 1954 at which time he joined the International division and was responsible for opening branches in London, Milan, Frankfurt, Singapore and Taiwan. He returned in 1974 as Senior Vice President. He saw active duty in the U.S. Naval Reserve 1943-46 as Commanding Officer of LSM 269 in the Pacific Theater and retired as Captain, USNR in 1971. He was a member of the Riomar Country Club in Vero Beach, The Wee Burn Club in Darien, CT, The Rockaway Hunting Club in Lawrence, Long Island, NY and the Oak Harbor Club in Vero Beach. He was preceded in death in October 1984 by his first wife Clara Barclay Onativia and by his second wife Shirley Smith in January 2005. He is survived by daughter Clara Baur of Avon, CT, daughter Madeleine Geoghegan of Weybridge, England, son Paul Jr. of Chicago, stepsons Peter Orrick (wife Cindy and sons) of Vero Beach, Chris Orrick of Raleigh, NC and five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at Oak Harbor Club in April, date TBA; an interment at a later date in Greenwood Cemetery, Brooklyn, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to the VNA / Hospice Foundation, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, Florida 32960.
