Philip Joseph McMahon, 83, died on December 18, 2017, after a long illness.  Phil was a resident of Vero Beach, Florida and a long time former resident of Phillipston, Massachusetts.  He was the cherished husband of Thelma Mescall McMahon, with whom he celebrated his 63 ^rd wedding anniversary on November 13 ^th ; and the beloved father to four children.

Phil was born on October 14, 1934 in Stamford, CT.  He attended St. John High School in Stamford, CT and lived in various Connecticut towns before settling into the log cabin he and his family built on Secret Lake in Phillipston, MA.  He was an active member of his community, serving as a Mason; a Shriner; a member of the order of the Eastern Star (OES); and a life member of the Phillipston historical society.  Phil was also a devoted member of the Phillipston Congregational Church.  He worked at Cheshire Water Pollution Control until his retirement.

Phil was predeceased by his parents, Harold McMahon and Alice Fitzpatrick McMahon and his faithful canine companion and best buddy, Oops.  He is survived by his wife, Thelma McMahon of Vero Beach, Florida and four children, Elizabeth Liburdi and her husband Livio of Wallingford, CT and Vero Beach, FL; Margaret Cicero and her husband Mario, of Middletown, CT; Harold McMahon and his wife Lisa, of East Hartford, CT and Kathryn Demars and her husband Doug of Meriden, CT.  He also leaves behind 7 beloved grandchildren, Tara and Livia Liburdi; Robert and Nicholas Cicero; Michael and Justin McMahon; and Brandon Demars; 5 great grandchildren, Tyler, Talia, Ryder, Makenna and Talia; and scores of nieces and nephews, all who loved him dearly.

Phil was a great family man with a dry wit and a calm and loving character.  His family always came first, but he had other great loves—including motorcycles, jackets, woodworking and dessert!

Phil will be interred at Beaverdale Memorial Park in New Haven, CT.  The family is planning a celebration of his life and details will be provided once they are finalized.
