Obituary

Phyllis Jean Brown, 78, of Vero Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 7, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.  She was born on March 23, 1947, in Keokuk, Iowa, to the late William and Martha Carrick.

In 1993, Phyllis married Lawrence J. Brown of Fort Pierce, Florida. Their union brought them many happy years together until Lawrence's passing in September 2010. Phyllis treasured the memories of their time together and found great joy in family gatherings, where her warmth and kindness shone through.

A lover of the outdoors, Phyllis was an avid gardener who found peace and purpose in tending to her plants and nurturing her surroundings. She had an unwavering love for nature, often taking long walks to observe the birds and wildlife that filled her life with wonder. Her bond with her three beloved cats was a testament to her gentle and caring nature, and they brought her comfort in her later years.

Phyllis's family was the center of her world. She is survived by her children: Tina Carrick Garber (Tim) of Murrayville, Georgia, Anthony Carrick (Deric) of Jefferson, Georgia, Chris Carrick of Vero Beach, Florida, and Sara Ruth Brown of Vero Beach, Florida. She was a proud grandmother to six grandchildren: Nicklaus Hallock, Elizabeth Rabinowitz (Sam), Taylor Khan, Emily Garber Grist (John), Mathew Garber, and Damara Richardson. Phyllis was also the loving great-grandmother to nine great-grandchildren: Mariah, Taylor, Nora, Amelia, Benjamin, Brayden, Evelyn, Adrian, and Adelyn, all of whom were a source of great joy and pride in her life.  Phyllis is also survived by her two sisters, Betty Hernandez of Shelbyville, Tennessee, and Wilma McCamly of Lincoln, Nebraska, as well as her brother, William Carrick of Evans, Colorado.

Phyllis's legacy will be remembered for her love of family, her nurturing spirit, and her deep connection with nature. She had a way of making everyone feel special, and her gentle presence will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to VNA Hospice of Vero Beach, Florida, in recognition of the compassionate care provided to Phyllis in her final days.
