IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Raymond John
Cody
August 9, 1956 – November 22, 2025
Raymond "Ray" John Cody, resident of Vero Beach, FL, formerly of Pawtucket, RI, passed away on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at the age of 69 as he was surrounded by his family.
Raymond was born on August 9, 1956, in Pawtucket, RI, where he was raised, the eldest son, along with his five siblings in a loving home with his parents, Raymond and Ileen Cody. Ray was raised in the Catholic church, and he remained a loyal and faithful patron throughout his life. He was a devoted 4th Degree Knight of The Knights of Columbus.
Ray was known as a man with a particular superpower of loving his family deeply and wholeheartedly. Growing up the eldest of 6 children, 4 brothers and a sister, he learned quickly how to navigate life with humor and wit. He brought a particular mischief and playfulness to his relationships, and his laugh is one of a kind that will be emblazoned in our minds for all time. He inherited the Cody tenacity, and when he put his mind to something, he was sure to accomplish it, including his goals for independence despite his challenges. He possessed the heart of someone always aiming to help others, particularly his nieces and nephews, whom he loved with great zeal. While living in Rumford Towers in Rumford, RI, Raymond was known as the "Mayor of Rumford Towers," who befriended the residents and remembered everything he learned about his neighbors. When living in The Heritage community in Vero Beach, he was a central member of the community, often seen riding his bicycle and stopping to talk to everyone in the neighborhood, well known and loved by his friends and neighbors.
Throughout his life, he was a man with many interests, including knitting, The Golden Girls, bowling, word searches, and The Sound of Music. He regularly used his knitting projects to create gifts for others, including a gift to Rachel Ray, which she shared on her show. He approached life with curiosity and joy. Ray was a great romantic at heart, and he loved weddings with fervor. He loved his country, and he was proud of his siblings who served in the U.S. Military. He enjoyed traveling abroad (as far West as Hawaii and as far as East as England) and all around the United States to visit family and friends. Ray was a participant in the Special Olympics, competing in bowling and basketball.
Ray will be lovingly remembered by Ileen, his devoted mother; his uncle, Garry Reilly; his siblings, Patricia Sylvia (Richard), Daniel Cody (Karen), Zachary McCarron (Timothy), and Kelly Cody. He will be fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews, Stefanie Taylor (Adam), Kate Cody (Christopher), Laura Snodgrass (Brenton), Jarred Cody, Brendan Cody, and Cameron Cody, as well as his 5 great nephews and niece. He was predeceased by his grandmother, Rita Reilly, father, Raymond J. Cody, and his brother, Timothy Cody. His memory will be treasured by all of his family members and lifelong friends.
A Knights of Columbus Memorial Service will be held at St. John of the Cross in Vero Beach at 9:00 am to be immediately followed by a Mass of Cristian Burial at 10:00 am on Saturday, January 17, 2026. A private family interment will be held on Tuesday, January 20, 2026.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to The Special Olympics.
