Rex L. Dimmitt, age 78, died December 4, 2010, at his home. He was a seventeen year resident of Buckhead Ridge, having relocated from Elkhorn, Nebraska. He was born in Omaha to the late George and Marian Dimmitt.
A member of the Armed Forces, he served in the U.S. Army from 1947-1952, 1955-1957 and in Korea from 1951-1952.
In 1959 he married Darlene Mahoney who died from cancer in 1976.
He was employed with the Union Pacific Railroad for 33 years, first as a brakeman and then as a mainline conductor.
He was a life-time member of VFW Post 247, American Legion Post 1, a Golden Eagle of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles #1835 and the UTU. He was also a member of the Buckhead Ridge LOOM #2417 where he received his Blue Coat.
His favorite hobbies included fishing, camping, and gambling.
In addition to his parents and wife, Darlene, he was preceded in death by brothers George, Jr. and Donald.
Survivors include his wife of 33 years, JoAnn; son, Donald (Regina) Dimmitt of Blair, Neb.; daughters, Della of Blair, Neb., Darla of Hollywood, Fla., Marian (Justin) Lee of Jacksonville Beach; stepsons, Brian (Karen) Evert of Cocoa Beach, Brad (Robin) Evert of Omaha, Neb.; stepdaughters, Dena (Jerry) Campbell of Herman, Neb., Margaret (Bill Mora) Mahoney of San Diego, Kimberly (Steve) Buresh of Lincoln, Neb.; 17 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held January 2, 2011, at the Buckhead Ridge Moose Lodge at 1:00 p.m., with a potluck luncheon to follow.
