IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard David
Clark
June 15, 1925 – April 8, 2020
The Rev. Richard David Clark passed away on April 8 th in Vero Beach, Florida, after a short illness. He was 94. He was born in New York City in 1925 to Richard T. E. Clark and Marion Danks Bowie Clark who immigrated from England/Scotland prior to his birth. He served his country in WWII as a Merchant Marine and after the war as a US Army soldier. He received his BA and MBA degree from Columbia University and then served as a CPA for many years. As he approached the age of 40, he left a successful accounting career to become a Lutheran minister where he mostly served small rural churches in upstate New York. Upon retirement in 1989, he relocated to Vero Beach, Florida where he joined Our Savior Lutheran Church. During his retirement in Florida, Rev. Clark often visited the shut-ins and retirement homes where he preached and gave comfort to the afflicted.
After meeting her in the church choir, Rev. Clark married his first wife, Margaret "Marge" Retta Robertson (who immigrated from Scotland) in 1950. Their 43-year loving marriage produced four children David (Lake City, FL), Paul (Turnersville, NJ), Margaret Zollman (Fairfax, VA) and Richard (Cleveland, OH). Marge passed away in 1993. A couple years later, Rev. Clark married his second wife, Milly Corbett, whom he met at Our Savior Lutheran Church. After 19 years of happy marriage filled with lots of memorable travel, Milly passed away in 2013.
Rev. Clark is survived by his four children, their spouses (Doris, Janice, and Elaine), five grandchildren and spouses (Andrew, Michael, Jennifer (Chris) Taylor (Ellen) and McKenzie), step-daughters Milly Ann Ward and Suzanne Gilnett, and a large extended step-family. In addition to Marge and Milly, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law Roger Zollman.
Rev. Clark was a man of faith. He believed he was put on this earth to extend love and a helping hand to those in need. He died as the hospital chaplain was singing 'The Old Rugged Cross' to him. For our dad, there could not be a more peaceful ending to a long, faithful and rewarding life.
Due to the Coronavirus, Rev. Clark's memorial service will be held at Our Savior Lutheran Church when travel is permitted. He will be laid to rest in Our Savior's columbarium. He is to be interned with his first wife Marge and next to his second wife Milly and her first husband Doug Corbett.
Donations in Rev. Clark's honor may be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church in Vero Beach, who was a loving and supportive family to dad for many, many years.
