IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard E
Davis
December 31, 1927 – January 19, 2022
Richard Ernest Davis, formerly of Carlisle, MA passed away peacefully on January 19, 2022 in Vero Beach, FL. Born on December 31, 1927 in New York City to William Henry and Flora Ros Davis, he was raised in Scarsdale, NY along with his brother, William Ros (predeceased in 2018). Dick attended Scarsdale High School where he discovered an affinity for the sciences; he majored in Chemistry at Cornell University and received his M.B.A from Harvard Business School. After his freshman year at Cornell, he served two years in the US Army. Dick met and fell in love with Jean Raymond while in business school, they married in 1952 and raised their two children in Carlisle, MA. Dick worked at Arthur D. Little in Cambridge for 32 years in petrochemical consulting, traveling extensively in Asia, Saudi Arabia, Brazil and Mexico. Unfortunately, Jean passed away in 1990. Aside from his family, Dick's passions included bass and blue fishing on Cape Cod, skiing in the US and abroad, traveling, reading, and gardening. Over the years Dick was deeply involved with the Episcopal Church.
Dick was lucky in love again when he met and married Carol Hume Ditzler, who he met through a mutual friend, Rev. Roger Wootton. They married in 1992, lived in Carlisle, MA and then moved to Vero Beach, FL in 2004.
Dick was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He had a superlative intellect, sparkling sense of humor, an easy grin and a kindness of spirit that will be greatly missed by all. He was predeceased by his daughter, Holly Davis Carner in October 2021, and is survived by his wife of 29 years, Carol Hume Davis, his son, Richard Ros Davis (Julia), of Chatham, MA, son-in-law, Larry Carner of Sebastian, FL, and four grandchildren: Matthew Ros, Todd Foster, Edward Raymond and Marnie Livingston Davis. He also leaves behind his three great granddaughters: Lucy Beach, Lane Holbrook and Rose Foster Davis. If Dick had one message for his family and friends, it would be "Be nice to one another because no one else will be."
A Celebration of Richard's Life will be at 11:00 on April, 15, 2022 at St Augustine of Canterbury Episcopal Church, 475 43rd Avenue, Vero Beach, 32968. R ichard will be buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in Acton, MA.
